Our GHN Committee has worked with the Red Sox to secure great seats throughout Fenway Park; this year we have a broader selection of seats available to our community.

ALPHA OMEGA COUNCIL HOSTED 2024 GREEK HERITAGE NIGHT WITH BOSTON RED SOX AT FENWAY PARK ON JUNE 4 IN HONOR OF HARRY AGGANIS “THE GOLDEN GREEK”

The sold-out festive evening welcomed an estimated 5,000 Greek Americans and benefitted the Metropolis of Boston Camp Gym & Field House Project at Saint Methodios Faith and Heritage Center

BOSTON, MA (June 5, 2024) –– Last night, the Alpha Omega Council of Boston, a Greek American organization cultivating the ideals of Hellenism by uniting Americans of Hellenic descent and Philhellenes through philanthropy and fellowship, hosted its annual Greek Heritage Night with the Boston Red Sox (vs. Atlanta Braves) at Fenway Park on June 4, 2024, which welcomed an estimated 5,000 Greek Americans to the stadium in celebration of Hellenism.

In its 7th year, Greek Heritage Night is a fundraiser to benefit charities supported by Alpha Omega Council. 2024 Greek Heritage Night with Boston Red Sox paid tribute to the memory of the great Harry Agganis, nicknamed “The Golden Greek”, and honored the Metropolis of Boston Camp (MBC), who was the beneficiary of the evening. Net proceeds from Alpha Omega Council’s sell out of 2,400 tickets benefitted the Metropolis of Boston Camp Gym Field House Project that is currently underway at MBC’s St. Methodios Faith & Heritage Center in Contoocook, New Hampshire.

Greek Heritage Night transformed Fenway Park into an evening packed with Hellenism. Prior to the game, there was a Heritage Pregame Ceremony on Jersey Street with members of the local Greek Community as well as Greek dance groups, such as Metropolis of Boston Dance Group, the Boston Lykeion Ellinidon, the Sons & Daughters of Alexander the Great, and Annunciation Church of Brockton Dance Group, who performed traditional Greek dances..

Peter Agris Memorial Journalism and Communications Awards mark 32nd year
of grants to Greek Americans

March 31 deadline for $5,000 communications grants

BOSTON – The Peter Agris Memorial Journalism/Communications Scholarships recently kicked off its 32nd year of providing critical financial aid to aspiring Greek American journalists, communications, and media specialists.

The grants are provided through a collaboration between the Alpha Omega Council of New England and the Agris family. Comprised of leading professionals of Hellenic ancestry, the Alpha Omega Council annually honors its late founder, Peter Agris, the founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle, for fifty years the premier Greek American national English-language national weekly newspaper in this country. Agris, who died in 1989, was an Archon of the Greek Orthodox Church, a trustee of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology, Anatolia College, The American College of Greece, and an Ahepan.

With almost $750,000 in grants to 142 recipients since 1993, the program has created a network of Hellenic media professionals which includes: Brett Forrest, Emmy Award Senior Reporter, EW Scripps & Emmy Award; George Gemelas, environmental journalist, The Indianapolis Business Journal; Anastasia Lennon, investigative reporter, The New Bedford Light; Arielle Mitropoulos, anchor/reporter, WMUR-TV, Manchester, NH; Constantine Valhouli, journalist, author, documentary film director; Christina Xenos, Greek cookbook author & culinary journalist; Melanie Yates, Senior Editor, Heart Magazines; and scores of others in communications and media positions around the globe.

The program is accepting applications through its March 31 deadline. Criteria include Greek American heritage; U.S. citizenship; current full-time enrollment as journalism/communications/media majors at the graduate/undergraduate level in an accredited college or university in the United States; active participation in school, community, church organizations; a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and financial need.
